Mom Power: MomsRising Launches Spanish-Language Site

Moms aren’t the only ones who can take action on MomsRising.org anymore. Now mamás have their own Spanish-language site: MamásConPoder.org.

With 45 million people speaking Spanish as a first or second language in the United States, Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner said the Spanish-language site was a major priority for MomsRising, a grassroots advocacy organization centered on issues impacting women, mothers and families.

“We’ve always believed in an inclusive approach,” Rowe-Finkbeiner told PreventObesity.net. “Launching MamásConPoder.org gives us an opportunity to deepen our service with Latinas.”

There has already been “a lot of excitement” Rowe-Finkbeiner added. The organization’s 27-person team will all play a role in the site so that the site is not “just about translation,” but rather getting people with the most topical expertise to organize activities and messages. “It’s all hands on deck,” Rowe-Finkbeiner said. “Everyone plays a part” in the new site.

Spanish-speaking moms can expect to see petitions on everything from paid family leave to breastfeeding rights to immigration reform on the site. Find out more at MamásConPoder.org.
