American Heart Association and Aramark Partnership Set to Impact 2 Billion Meals Annually



The American Heart Association and Aramark, the largest food service provider in the U.S., have teamed up to create Healthy for Life 20 by 20. This new initiative will affect more than 2 billion meals served across the U.S. at events, schools, universities and businesses, among others each year.

Healthy for Life 20 by 20 will reduce calories, saturated fats and sodium by 20 percent, while increasing the fruits, vegetables and whole grains used by 20 percent. According to Al Royse, the chairman of the American Heart Association, it is “estimated that if the American public increased their consumption of fruits and vegetables to meet current public health recommendations, 127,000 lives could be saved each year.”

Aramark’s Chairman, President and CEO, Eric J. Foss, who is determined to use this new initiative to live up to the Aramark mission ‘Enrich and Nourish Lives,’ said “we can use our scale and culinary expertise to help people lead healthier lives.”

The initiative will change the menu, but it will also include community health engagement programs, consumer health and education programs, and reporting. The consumer health awareness and education programs will host cooking sampling and demonstrations, wellness workshops, and digital information on health and nutrition, focusing in underserved communities. The programs will begin in Dallas, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
