Get Out the Vote

Election Day might be past us, but you still can cast your ballot.

But instead of selecting the next president, you can vote to select the school you think most deserves a healthy makeover.

Our friends at SPARK -- which provides physical education, after school, early childhood and coordinated school health programs to teachers and recreation leaders – is giving away a comprehensive curriculum package designed to give one lucky school a “Healthy School Makeover” worth $45,000.

More than 190 schools submitted videos to the contest explaining why they should receive the makeover. Finalists will be determined via a public vote, now taking place on the contest website. Voting is open through Nov. 14, and members of the public can vote once per day.

Judges will then determine the winner of the contest, based on criteria such as the school’s interest in improving fitness, implementation opportunities, innovation, teaching and learning opportunities, community outreach and school administration approval.

The winner of the contest will be announced on Dec. 10. Golfer Annika Sorenstam will officially present the grand prize to the winner.

Along with SPARK, other organizations contributing to the contest include Sorenstam’s Annika Foundation, Sportime, the First Tee, the Healthy Kids Challenge, Healthy Lifestyle Choices, GenMove, Skillastics, the National Association for Sport and Physical Education and Polar.
