Unilever announced that by the end of 2020 it will no longer market and advertise food and beverages to children under the age of 12 in traditional media. Additionally, social media advertisements will no longer be directed towards children below the age of 13.  The idea behind this shift in practice is to empower parents, caregivers and children to make informed choices about the products they purchase, and to address the increasing impact social media has on sales of food and beverages.

Unilever has chosen its ice cream business to lead the implementation of its new marketing practices.
