TODAY: Webinar on Advocacy After “Weight of the Nation”

While the media buzz has dwindled for Weight of the Nation, the four-part HBO documentary studying the obesity epidemic, the momentum to take action continues to grow — and you can get involved.

Civic leaders from across the nation (including PreventObesity.net Director Marty Kearns) will take part in the webinar “Acting on Weight of the Nation” at 3:30 p.m. Eastern today, discussing how people can use the film to advance the obesity prevention movement.

Speakers will outline the key themes found in the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, Accelerating Progress on Obesity Prevention. They’ll also share ways to mobilize individuals, organizations, companies and other groups to take action to effect policy change to meet the goals found in the IOM report.

Along with Kearns, other scheduled speakers include Shiriki Kumanyika, professor of epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine; Kerri Peterson, the executive director of Live Well Omaha; Stacy Wegley, director of the Hamilton County Public Health’s department of Health Promotion and Education in Cincinnati; Amy Whited, senior media relations strategist at Kaiser Permanente Colorado; and Monte Roulier, president of Community Initiatives at Community Commons.
