Ohio's Healthy Food Movement: Opening a Grocery Store in Vinton County

Vinton County, Ohio lost it's only grocery store in 2013, but this week, they broke ground for a new grocery store thanks to the Healthy Food for Ohio program.

You may remember this video from 2015 highlighting the need for grocery stores in Ohio – specifically in Vinton County who lost their only grocery store more than three years ago.

Advocates across the state worked tirelessly and in June 2016, Ohio Governor John Kaisich signed into law a budget that included $2 million in seed capital to create a Healthy Food Financing Initiative. We wanted to share the great news that on Monday, March 20, Vinton County residents celebrated the groundbreaking for Campbell’s Market, supported through the Healthy Food For Ohio program. Federal, state, and county officials joined by the Vinton County High School Band participated in the groundbreaking. US News & World Report even picked up the story!
