Up Next: Physical Activity in Communities and Schools

PreventObesity.net is partnering with our friends at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) and League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) for a summertime webinar series looking at the unique challenges the Latino community faces in combating obesity.

Our next session, Physical Activity in Communities and Schools: The Impact on Latino Children and Youth, will be held at 2pm eastern time on Aug. 23. The webinar is free. Click here to sign up.

About 200 people tuned in last week for the “Nutrition in Communities and Schools: What is at Stake for Latino Children” webinar. Missed it? Click here to view the 84 minute presentation.

Obesity rates among Latino youth are higher than in most other ethnicities, studies show. In this year’s F as in Fat report, for example, researchers found that 15.1 percent of Latino high school students are obese, compared to 12 percent of all students. About 19 percent of Latino high schoolers are overweight, compared to 15.8 percent among all students that age.
