Over the past few generations, our communities have changed dramatically. We’ve engineered physical activity out of our daily lives and, to a large extent, removed it from our schools. Unhealthy food is cheap, while it remains difficult for many families to afford the healthy food they need. Communities already burdened by years of disinvestment and bad policy are experiencing widening gaps in health equity. Public policy has led to current conditions and good policy change must be part of the solution. We can help.

The goal of these grants is to make strategic investments in ongoing state, local, and tribal public policy issue campaigns. We want to change policy to make all communities healthier, regardless of zip code. Campaigns working in historically marginalized communities and lead by organizations within those communities are highly encouraged to apply.

Our work unites the voices of organizations and advocates in communities that want to see change. Our collective work is backed by science and amplified by the leadership and resources of the American Heart Association and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as well as the expertise of leading advocacy organizations. Our grants come not just with dollars, but access to specialized technical assistance and experienced policy change experts.

Voices for Healthy Kids aims to help make each day healthier for all children. We hope you will join us.

Policy Campaign Grant Opportunity
The Policy Campaign Grant opportunity aims to fund strategic issue advocacy campaigns focused on helping kids grow up healthy through state, local, and tribal public policy campaigns. Applications must be specific to an individual campaign for public policy change in one state, local, or tribal geographic location and address one of the policy levers supported by our initiative. Voices for Healthy Kids is allocating grants up to $250,000 per award for a period of up to one year. Please note awards will be very competitive and applicants are encouraged to apply for the funds they need and not always the maximum allowed. Applicants working on policy campaigns are able to allocate up to 20% of their budget for lobbying tactics.
Voices for Healthy Kids does not fund:

  • curricula development
  • policy implementation
  • equipment
  • operations of physical activity, nutrition, or similar participant-based program capital expenditures
  • academic research or other non-advocacy purposes

Application Process
Voices for Healthy Kids has a two-step application process. All eligible applicants are asked to submit a letter of intent to be considered. All letters of intent will be thoroughly reviewed and select applicants will be invited to submit a full application for consideration in a competitive review process. Campaigns aimed at historically marginalized communities and lead by organizations of those communities are highly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should submit their Letters of Intent (LOI) in the online grant system on or before June 7, 2019 – 5 PM pacific.
