Leader Named “School Health Champion”

Congratulations are in order for PreventObesity.net Leader Ingrid Morris, who was named a Subway School Health Champion for the month of August.

The award honors individuals who are leaders in promoting policies and programs that improve the health of students and staff in schools. Morris will officially be presented with the award during halftime at the University of North Carolina football game on Sept. 29. She’ll also receive a $500 grant to help fund school wellness efforts she is helping to lead.

The Inside Track hears that Morris is “honored” and “motivated” by the award.

Morris serves as the senior health promotion manager for NC Prevention Partners, where she promotes healthy nutrition and physical activity policies for students and staff in schools in the Tar Heel State.

Astute Inside Track readers might also remember Morris from PreventObesity.net’s July 17 webinar on collaborating for community health, or a feature story we ran in Nov. 2011 about her efforts to use online networks to bring North Carolinians together to create healthier environments.

“I’ve… found that there are people in each community who are passionate about wellness,” Morris said at the time. “It’s just a matter of finding them, and then empowering them.”

Congrats again, Ingrid!
