It Takes a Village

Our friends at Leadership for Healthy Communities are hosting a webinar TODAY at 2 p.m. EST studying strategies that address both public safety and childhood obesity. The webinar is tied to the release of their recent report, “Making the Connection: Linking Policies to Improve Public Safety with Preventing Childhood Obesity.”

Research shows that when families feel safe in a community, they are more likely to engage in physical activity that will improve their health. The webinar will look at how implementing policies that improve a neighborhood’s built environment can also address safety concerns, which will encourage children and their families to become active and ultimately reduce obesity.

Scheduled speakers include Houston Councilmember Ed Gonzales; Matthew Rufo, program manager of the Prevention Research Center at Tulane University; and Deb Hubsmith, director of the Safe Routes to School National Partnership (and a longtime PreventObesity.net Leader!)
