Take Part in the Washington Post’s Childhood Obesity Summit

Let’s Move Executive Director Sam Kass, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and former Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan are among the leaders slated to speak during the Washington Post Childhood Obesity Summit on Friday — and you’re invited to attend!

Washington Post Live is hosting the event, which will study signs of progress in the effort to reduce childhood obesity rates and highlight ongoing efforts to reverse the epidemic. As of press time, there still were a few spots available to attend the event in Washington, D.C., and those who can’t be there in person are being encouraged to watch the live stream online.

Other scheduled speakers include Regina Benjamin, the 18th Surgeon General of the United States; Yael Lehmann, executive director of The Food Trust; Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (which is also sponsoring the event) and Amelie Ramirez, director of Salud America! (who the Inside Track profiled a few weeks ago).

Discussions will center on strategies to reduce obesity that are proving to be successful, including changes to school meals programs, efforts to improve access to healthy food in underserved communities and opportunities to encourage physical activity throughout the school day.
