Upcoming Webinars Focus on Healthy Food Retail, Procurement

Increasing access to healthy, affordable food is a key part of the effort to reduce obesity — and two upcoming webinars will examine strategies for doing so where people work and live.

Our friends at ChangeLab Solutions are hosting a March 18 webinar titled “Healthy Food Retail 101: Strategies for Changing the Food Retail Environment.” ChangeLab policy analyst Rio Holaday will join senior policy analyst and program director Christine Fry on the webinar, which will provide an overview of various approaches for improving the retail environment in different communities. The pros and cons of programs such as healthy retail programs, licensing and zoning and sugary drink restrictions will be discussed.

The 30 minute webinar is slated to begin at 2 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Pacific. Click here to register.

One week later, the Center for Training and Research Translation (Center TRT) is slated to host a webinar studying Healthy Food Procurement. The webinar will provide an overview of an initiative developed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to create healthier food environments by establishing nutrition standards and healthy food purchasing practices in all county departments that sell food.

Speakers will include Michelle Wood, who helped implement the program as the program manager of Food Procurement and Policy with the county health department. There also will be a 10-minute Q&A period.

The webinar is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Pacific. Click here to register.
