Healthier Snacks Coming to a School Near You!

School snacks and drinks across the country are about to get healthier — because of people like YOU.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Thursday unveiled the interim final rule establishing national nutrition guidelines for foods and drinks sold in schools outside of meals. Set to be implemented by fall 2014, these guidelines ensure that schools nationwide offer healthier items to students.

This is a victory for children and teenagers everywhere, and it couldn’t have happened without YOU.

Nearly 250,000 people earlier this year wrote to the USDA in support of the proposed guidelines. Because of people like you, the USDA knows how important these guidelines are to kids’ health.

But our work isn’t done yet. Now the hard work of implementing the guidelines across the country begins. You can help by checking out some of the resources offered by our friends at the Kids’ Safe & Healthful Foods Project.

Thank you again for raising your voice. This is a great moment for all of us working to build a healthier future for America’s young people.
