Meet Robert Griffin III, quarterback and founder of Family of 3, and hear how he is helping children learn about healthy eating and fitness at Salute to Fitness.

How did you end up here today, and what motivates you to work on issues to help our kids grow up healthier?

It’s simple. I'm here to give back to the world’s future. It's a blessing to have the stage to bring awareness and support to an issue essential to the health of future generations. People before me took the time to care and I am here now to give my time in return.

How are you working to change the environment to make it healthier and create a culture of health?

Through our Foundation, Family of 3, we have brought several events to the community promoting health and wellness for both children and adults. Our annual Salute to Fitness event focuses on teaching parents and their children the right way to eat and how important exercise is in their daily life. We believe if we teach the parents, they will take it home with them and continue teaching the same principles we taught them to their children. Our goal is to create a long lasting, generational impact with everything we do. Teaching our communities how to be healthy is a big part of that.

What are your biggest accomplishments in helping children achieve a healthy weight?

Through our Salute to Fitness and Friday Night Lights community events, we have had a direct impact on over 1,500 children. We encourage kids to get out, be active and maintain healthy lifestyle choices. We teach them how to workout and how to eat to make sure both their minds and bodies are in the best shape they can be in. Holding these events yearly ensures we will be impacting more and more families. Furthermore those we have already impacted can continue inspiring others and their community.

What excites you the most about showing up for work every day?

The opportunity to perfect my craft and impact the lives of others is a huge motivating factor for me in showing up to work every day. No day is promised to us. Therefore, the ones we are blessed enough by God to wake up to we should seize fully. The opportunity to do good in this world and change it for the better. That is my motivation. You are my motivation.

If you were starting out in your career, what would you recommend to your younger self? Tip of the day from the person.

Have a dream. Make a plan. Set your goals. Go have fun catching it.

What game or sport did you play growing up?

Growing up I participated in every sport I could get my parents to let me play. Baseball, soccer, basketball, football and track were the mainstays. Yet, I loved the games of table tennis and badminton all the same. All the sports my parents signed me up for helped me grow as a well rounded man and leader. They helped me maintain a healthy lifestyle because I had to in order to compete at the highest level. Everything from a healthy diet and daily exercise to getting plenty of rest was included in that.
