Webinar: Engaging Middle Schools in Safe Routes to School

The Safe Routes to School National Partnership is hosting a free webinar on Sept. 5 designed to help advocates, facilitators, teachers and others work with middle school youth to establish and strengthen Safe Routes to School programs.

Working with middle school students can be challenging, but the partnership notes that there are “myriad opportunities for better engaging this demographic,” including through youth engagement programs that tackle Safe Routes.  The webinar will offer an overview on working with middle schoolers and engage them in active transportation efforts in an authentic way.

Scheduled speakers include Arthur Orsini, facilitator for Urbanthinkers; Leah Stender; program manager for WalkSanDiego; Alyssa Simon, youth leadership coordinator with The Food Trust; and Dave Cowan, program manager for the Safe Routes to School National Partnership.

The webinar is part of SRTS National Partnership’s National Learning Series. Past webinars include sessions on acquiring federal funds for Safe Routes programs, maximizing local involvement in Safe Routes programs and engaging policymakers on the issue. Click here to view the full webinar archive.
