What inspired you to start working on childhood obesity?

My extended family is full of small children and seeing them healthy and happy is always encouraging! Being involved with PreventObesity.net allows me the opportunity to help others make sure their kids are healthy and happy too. On a more personal note, I’d like to have kids of my own one day. Before that time comes I want to make sure that I know how to best care for my kids and raise them to be health-conscious and active.

How are you helping to reverse childhood obesity?

I’ll be writing about issues that are central to the movement to reduce childhood obesity and encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle overall. I hope that what I write really hits home with our community! I also hope that I can help spread important information and interesting news through this network and beyond.

What’s your biggest accomplishment so far in helping reduce childhood obesity?

Since I’m the newest member of the Netcentric Campaigns and PreventObesity.net teams, I can’t claim any victories just yet. But I’m excited to see what this team of Leaders and Supporters can achieve in the future!

Who is your role model in your work?

I’d definitely have to say my mother. She’s been an elementary school special education teacher her entire career. When I was in high school, she went back to school to get a masters’ degree that has allowed her the opportunity to become the principal of an elementary school in my hometown. As a principal, she helps her students make good, healthy decisions and as a mother, she always encouraged me to be active.

What game or sport did you play growing up?

I did a lot of different sports growing up because I loved making new friends and being active! My main activities were dance, gymnastics and cheerleading. I also played basketball, soccer and roller hockey.
