Webinar: Using Social Media to Advance Public Health

Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+, Tumblr… phew!

There are loads of different social media outlets out there these days, and plenty of prominent people and organizations are using them. But how do you go beyond the normal chatter and use social media to actually move health issues forward?

That’s the question our friends at the Food Marketing Working Group, the National Policy & Legal Analysis Network (NPLAN) and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) plan to tackle in a Sept. 10 webinar.

Titled “Using Social Media to Advance Public Health,” the hour-long webinar will discuss the ever-changing world of social media and the benefits of using the various platforms. The webinar also will feature tips for using social media effectively and spotlight case studies that showcase successful strategies for advancing public health issues.

Scheduled speakers include Nicco Mele, the cofounder of EchoDitto and an adjunct lecture in public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School, and Caren Baginski, the social media coordinator for LiveWell Colorado. PreventObesity.net Leader Monifa Bandele, the senior campaign director of MomsRising.org, also is scheduled to appear on the webinar, which will be moderated by PreventObesity.net Leader Margo Wootan, the director of nutrition policy at the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

The free webinar is slated to begin at 3 p.m. Eastern time. Click here to register.
