News from New York! Students in New York City will now receive excellent physical education (PE) instruction and opportunities for physical activity! It’s all thanks to Local Law 102, which went into effect on June 28.

By collecting comprehensive data from its schools, the Department of Education empowers parents, educators, and advocates to determine where to direct resources to ensure every child has access to effective PE. This policy will help 1.1 million New York City students have a better chance for greater health and academic outcomes!

Congratulations to the American Heart Association New York and the Phys Ed 4 All Coalition: YMCA of Greater New York, Citizen’s Committee for Children of New York, New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, American Cancer Society-Cancer Action Network, Wellness in the Schools, Bronx Health REACH, Run4Fun, Make the Road New York, Phys Ed Plus, Women’s City Club of New York, NY AHPERD and The Center for Educational Equity!
