Getting Social

Looks like Leader Gina Giargente isn’t the only one with a love of hula.

Social Media Week was last week, which saw thousands of people meet in cities across the globe to discuss how social media is reshaping politics, culture and the economy. Here in DC, Zach and I attended a session looking at how social media can play a role in reducing obesity.

The session “Snacktime: Collaboratively Improving Kids’ Nutrition and Fitness… and Having Some Fun Along the Way” studied how school officials and nonprofits are using social media to educate students about nutrition and physical activity. Along with providing tips for using social media to reach out to young people (hint: middle schoolers love to text) students on hand demonstrated the ways they keep fit, which included hula hooping.
