Conference Calling

Who doesn’t get excited to visit sunny Southern California in the middle of summer?

The Inside Track is already planning our schedule for the upcoming 6th Biennial Childhood Obesity Conference, slated to take place June 28 through July 1 in perpetually sunny San Diego. Aside from offering visitors beautiful beaches and practically perfect weather (hopefully!), the conference serves as the nation’s largest collaboration of professionals dedicated to reversing childhood obesity, a conference spokesman says.

Plenty of bold face names in the childhood obesity community are expected to attend, and keynote speakers likely will include social marketing consultant Nedra Weinreich, Data.gov evangelist Jeanne Holm, California Endowment program manager Mary Lou Fulton and… wait for it… PreventObesity.net’s own Marty Kearns. The group will talk about social media and how it will reshape the future of health care, nonprofits, government and education.

Workshops will be offered in eight tracks: agriculture and food systems; basic and applied research; built environment, land use and transportation; community nutrition and physical activity; early childhood education; health care prevention strategies; marketing to kids; and school/afterschool programs and policies.

There’s still time to register for the three-day soiree. A full list of official workshops can be found here. Be sure to connect with the conference via Facebook and Twitter as well; the official conference hashtag is #COC11.
