EatSmart.jpgIn February 2017, Columbia's City Council unanimously adopted a policy to improve the nutritional quality of foods and beverages in city-owned vending machines and in city-sponsored meetings and events. The policy is among the strongest in the country and is the first of its kind in the state of South Carolina.

Advocates, including Eat Smart Move More SC, the American Heart Association, and the SC Hospital Association, are working with the city to ensure successful implementation. The city recently hosted a Health & Wellness fair to promote the policy and to get feedback from employees and residents on the types of healthier products they enjoy.
