The new law requires that at least half the offerings in vending machines meet the full healthy nutritional standards and 100% will meet the sodium and trans fat standards. These healthier offerings must be less than 200 calories per package. While 50% of beverages must be water, milk, 100% juice, or beverages with fewer than 40 calories per serving. Additionally, these products will cost the same or less than the junk food and sugary drinks that are sold from the machines, and must be arranged within the machine in places with the highest selling potential.

As Prince George’s County has joined Montgomery County, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, and Washington D.C., approximately 2.7 million residents are covered by healthy vending laws in the Greater Washington Region!
