First Look at Food Marketing in Schools Campaign

PreventObesity.net will launch a campaign on Monday in support of proposed guidelines restricting unhealthy marketing of food and beverages in schools — and we’re giving Leaders a sneak peek!

Introduced by First Lady Michelle Obama at a White House event and officially put forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the proposed guidelines are designed to make sure only healthy foods and beverages are marketed to kids in school. As school food expert Tracy Fox notes in a Q&A with the Inside Track, the proposal makes perfect sense, as it is in line with nutritional guidelines already established for food and beverages sold in schools.

The USDA is currently accepting comments on the proposal, and our goal is to drive tens of thousands of supportive comments to the agency.

Keep your eyes peeled on Monday morning for an email from PreventObesity.net officially kicking off the campaign. We also would love to chat with Leaders like you about ways we can work together to promote this important effort to your networks. Please email us at [email protected] if you are interested in getting involved!
