Roaring Thunder for Healthy School Snacks

You raised your voice for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s proposal for healthy school snacks. Now let’s keep up the momentum!

Nearly 250,000 people across the childhood obesity movement — including 180,000 PreventObesity.net Leaders and Supporters — wrote to the USDA to support the agency’s proposed nutrition standards for school food and drinks sold outside of meals. Now the movement is uniting once again, this time to ask the USDA to finalize the proposal before July 1, which would mean schools would implement the new standards in the 2013-14 school year.

You can help by taking part in a Thunderclap scheduled for June 21 that will harness the power of social media to spread the word.

Here’s how it works. People sign up for the Thunderclap using their Twitter account. Then on June 21, everybody who signed up will post this Tweet: “Thanks #USDA 4 work 2 make school snacks healthier. We're with u as u finalize #SmartSnacks rule! moms.ly/GoUSDA.”

If enough people sign up for the Thunderclap, school snacks might be trending on Twitter!
