On Monday, June 25, 2016, California Governor Jerry Brown approved the final 2016-2017 budget with $9.5 million allocated for school filtration systems to ensure California students, particularly those living in low-income communities or areas of acute water shortage or contamination, have access to safe drinking water. The investments included in the budget will provide safe drinking water for more than one hundred thousand California students.

For many students who live in small, low-income communities impacted by unsafe drinking water, school is the only option for access to free, fresh drinking water, which is essential to health and educational achievement.  Congratulations to California for making this important investment!
