In July 2016, the USDA announced additional rules that implement provisions of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA). These final rules were the Smart Snacks in School, Local School Wellness Policy, Community Eligibility Provision, and the Administrative Review. All of these rules are important to ensure the overall wellbeing of our students’ health in school, especially school wellness policies. According to the USDA, the school wellness rule “empowers communities to take an active role in the health of their children.”
