Healthier Vending in Rogers, Arkansas

Mayor Greg Hines issued an executive order that would bring healthier vending options to all property and facilities owned by the city. All food items and beverages must meet certain criteria and the policy safeguards that employees and visitors will have access to healthier options.

Congratulations to the City of Rogers, Arkansas! Mayor Greg Hines issued an executive order that brings healthier vending options to all property and facilities owned and operated by the city (pop. 60,384).

All food items must have 0 grams of trans fat, and no more than 230 mg of sodium. Additionally, 25% of food products must contain no more than 200 calories, fewer than 10% of its calories come from saturated fat, and fewer than 35% of its total weight comes from sugar.

Fifty percent of beverages must meet one of the following requirements: contains fewer than 40 calories, consists of 100% juice with no added caloric sweeteners, consists of 100% vegetable juice that contains fewer than 230mg sodium, or be fat-free or low fat milk.

Also, the total calorie content for all vending items will be displayed to help consumers make informed, healthier choices.

This policy ensures that all city employees and visitors to city property will have access to healthy foods, as well as drinks.
